Identify one VR activity in your agency you see that reflects the spirit of the CSAVR-led Vision 2020 initiative:
Our Agency has built many collaborative partnerships with government, businesses and private entities that reflect the spirit of Vision 2020. We have a long standing partnership with Bank of America and are collaborating to develop a business based training model that will help our clients access jobs in financial and related industries.
What attracted you to the VR profession?
The mission of the VR profession which quite simply helps individuals with disabilities develop career paths and obtain employment was the attraction as well as the challenge. Working with a variety of entities and partnering with businesses to achieve this goal is a rewarding career. The people both professionals and consumers I have met throughout my career have taught me much and provided the opportunity to learn and grow in this profession.
What other professional or life experiences have helped you prepare for or have added value to your role as a state VR director?
I like to say I have had almost every job related to the VR profession. My experiences working with clients on the ground training and developing employment opportunities was very beneficial. Managing programs such as supported employment taught me to be flexible and be able to customize and change when necessary.
What is one fun fact you would like for your peers to know about you?
I was invited to a Presidential dinner on the South Lawn of the White House in 1996. (You can figure out the President). The dinner was great but the entertainment provided by Linda Ronstadt and the Neville Brothers was even better!
